Photography.

Zone system, f-stop, focal length, fixer, developer and now mega pixels and color space. It's a mix of art, science, technology and voodoo.

To create an image on demand you need technical expertise and experience but the one thing (arguably - but not by me) not available in a book or a box is creativity. A willingness to imagine, envision and then quit futzing with the lights and camera settings and just "take a picture".

Spapoops.

The term came from C.O. - my dad. Although he never gave photography a try, he taught me how to look at the world - visually, practically and joyfully.

C.O. also taught me that you prepare as best you can but then comes the time to just jump in - whether it's work, play, family - or even a box of snacks.

When C.O. grabbed a box from a grocery bag, it got opened right side up, upside down or sideways depending upon how it "presented itself" and the final orientation of the box never affected his enjoyment of the contents.

Spapoops is what you get when you open a box of Nabisco Doodads upside down.

It's also my approach to photography. Prepare, but be willing to just "take a picture".

That's also my approach to life.
